Are Prenatals Dangerous? The Answer Is Surprising

Prenatals, there doesn’t seem to be much controversy over them. And in some sense, there shouldn’t be.

These vitamins serve a simple purpose, to help the developing child in a mother’s womb grow in a healthy and controlled manner.

But the facts are, prenatals aren’t all that great for moms or babies. At least, the vast majority of them aren’t, and that’s because of what’s inside of them and also, what’s not.

Truly, the best way for a mom to have a healthy child is to have a healthy diet. That is, a diet full of whole foods, devoid of artificial ingredients, preservatives and dyes.

Prenatals are only really meant to cover the gaps in a moms diet…i.e. when she’s too sick to eat the kinds of foods that are appropriate for healthy development.

That’s the overarching guidance that doctors at Robinhood Integrative Health will give.

But, that doesn’t mean prenatals don’t serve a purpose.

Today we’re going to talk a bit about the dangers of the ingredients in many of the most popular prenatals and give you some insight into why you should stay away from them…and what to take instead.

Hint, we think pregnant and breastfeeding moms should take Raise Them Well Physician Developed Prenatal & Breastfeeding Multivitamin.

Dr. Wiggy formulated this to include 4 ingredients that almost all prenatals leave out, while also leaving out tons of useless and toxic ingredients.

Plus, all of the other nutrients included in this formula are in the right dose for a mom and her growing baby, meaning that when they’re taken to supplement a healthy diet, moms and babies are sure to get what they need.

What Could Be Wrong With Prenatals?

We don’t want to point fingers at prenatal manufacturers and say they’re actively trying to harm you with their supplements.

However, some of them are definitely harming you whether they want to or not.

How so?

Well, some prenatal vitamins are filled with artificial dyes to color their pills and make them look like candy (why a mom needs to take a candy-colored pill to help her child grow healthily is beyond us).

Many of these dyes, like Red #40, Blue Lake 5, and more are known to disrupt the endocrine system, can contribute to ADHD and other behavioral disorders, are known carcinogens and are not fit for human consumption (Europe has banned many food dyes).

Thus, if a prenatal you’re considering has dyes in it, then you should avoid it at all costs.

Others include ingredients like folic acid and cyanocobalamin.

These ingredients seem to be healthy, but there’s a problem with them.

40% of women have a genetic mutation on a gene called the MTHFR gene. With that mutation they are not able to methylate either vitamin into their final forms (called methylfolate and methylcobalamin) and as a result it could lead to improper development of the brain, nervous system, skeletal system and more.

Also, some (like gummies) contain artificial sweeteners that are known endocrine disruptors, too.

Instead, you should look at a prenatal like Raise Them Well Physician Developed Prenatal & Breastfeeding Multivitamin.

This prenatal is amazing because it delivers the two versions of folate and B-12 that every person can use (methylfolate and methylcobalamin), they are free of anything artificial. Heck, they’re free of most ingredients that could pose a problem to a mom and growing baby.

  • Sugar-free
  • Dairy-free
  • Non-GMO
  • Soy-free
  • No yeast
  • No nuts
  • No preservatives
  • No artificial colors
  • No shellfish

And best of all is they contain 2 other ingredients that most prenatals ignore, which are glutathione (a master detoxification agent) and vitamin K2-Mk7 (needed for the healthy formation of bones, teeth, and skeletal system.
