Why Methylation Is Essential For Good Health

As a doctor (maybe even your doctor) there are a lot of things I hope you’re doing daily.

Like, I hope you’re brushing your teeth. I hope that you’re eating a healthy diet.

And I hope you’re telling the people you love that you love them!

One more thing I hope you’re doing is methylating.

If you’ve been on my email list for long then you know I used to talk quite a bit about methylation/the methyl cycle.

These past few years my focus on methylation has taken a back seat in my writing, but definitely not in my office.

Current research indicates that as many as 60% of Americans don’t methylate efficiently (or at all). So when patients come into my office complaining about X Y or Z, one of the first things I think about is whether or not the person who’s in front of me methylates daily.

In this article I’m going to get into some of the nitty gritty of methylation and why if you’re one of the 60% of Americans who aren’t methylating properly you ought to consider taking  Life Extension Methyl-Cobalamin 1 mg Lozenges.

This product basically takes over where your body fails, and I’ll explain how it works here in just a second.

Why Methylation Is So Important For Good Health

So, what is methylation?

It’s something that I know you’re never thinking of, but you need to in order to remain healthy.

Methylation happens when your body transfers 4 atoms from one substance to another. In this case, we’re talking about the transfer of 1 carbon atom and 3 hydrogen atoms from molecules needed for various biological processes.

Methylation is responsible for regulating things like:

  • DNA production
  • Neurotransmitter production
  • Detoxification
  • Histamine metabolism
  • Estrogen metabolism
  • Eye health
  • Fat metabolism
  • Cellular energy
  • Liver health
  • DNA production
  • Neurotransmitter production

And quite a bit more!

You can almost think of methylation as a series of switches that help to turn different engines on inside of your body. These “engines” if you will, regulate systems that control heart health, brain health, reproductive health, and so much more.

Your body is able to methylate when a chemical called SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) is present and teamed up with a B-vitamin called 5-MTHFR.

5-MTHFR helps to switch SAMe on, and since SAMe works as a universal methyl donor, it helps to transfer the atoms I mentioned above in the body to make these microscopic engines fire.

Now here’s where the issue lies with most people and methylation.

60% of people’s bodies aren’t able to make 5-MTHFR out of the food they eat.

Which means they can’t methylate.

That’s obviously an issue if you want to maintain near perfect health.

How is that people don’t methylate you may (or may not) be wondering?

Ok, buckle in for a second as I’m going to explain a bit about the biology at play that has led to as many as 6 in 10 people suffering from this condition.

Though our genome is quite expansive, we’ve managed to identify several portions of the genome where as many as 40-50 mutation possibilities for MTHFR could crop up.

There are 2 mutation types that we’ve identified as being the most problematic.

These mutations are passed down by birth, and the longer humans procreate, the more chances we as a species have of developing more and more complicated versions of these mutations.

So, how does this work? How do you develop these mutations?

You can actually read this article that I wrote about MTHFR not long ago.

Instead, what I want to do is focus on how you can fix this issue.

Fortunately you can supplement with 5-MTHFR to overcome the inability to make it from your food.

Products like Life Extension Methyl-Cobalamin 1 mg Lozenges give your body 5-MTHFR so that your body can turn on SAMe and start to get those biological switches turned back on (assuming they were ever on in the first place…which they likely weren’t).

Life Extension Methyl-Cobalamin 1 mg Lozenges is one of the more important B-vitamins meant for methylation. Methylcobalamin is the end stage of vitamin B-12 you get via diet and is integral for completing the transfer of carbon and hydrogen.

There are more expensive forms of methylcobalamin, but many of them are teamed up with other ingredients that you may or may not need.

The only way to find out exactly what you need is through genetic screening. Which, is actually something we offer here at our offices at Robinhood Integrative Health.

For most of my patients, a simple addition of Life Extension Methyl-Cobalamin is all they need to start feeling the full effects of proper methylation.

Why Life Extension Methyl-Cobalamin Is A Preferred Choice at HAIOTB

There’s a good reason we prefer to use Life Extension Methyl-Cobalamin here.

Actually, make that reasons.

The first is the brand. Life Extension is one of the premium brands in the supplement industry, and we rely on it for its quality and purity.

The 2nd is the price. While Life Extension products tend to skew towards the more expensive side of things, this particular product of theirs is actually quite affordable.

A 2-month supply is just $8.00

The 3rd reason we prefer it is because our patients who take it get results.

If you want to see what they say about it just follow this link and read their reviews. You’re going to be pleasantly surprised to see how much people enjoy taking this low-cost supplement.

If you need any additional information on methylation, please check out these articles I’ve written on the subject.
