How Strontium Citrate Makes It So Bones Are Strong and Healthy
Not many people know much about strontium citrate. It sounds like something you’d make a nuclear bomb with.
This mineral actually shares similarities to calcium.
It’s a trace mineral (Sr on the periodic table of elements) that looks like calcium on a molecular level and behaves similarly to it, too. It’s for this reason that many doctors are recommending it in place of calcium for supporting bone health.
There’s a version of strontium called strontium ranelate that is actually sold as a prescription in Europe for bone health.
Fortunately you don’t need a prescription for strontium citrate and medical studies show that it can help with supporting your bone health.
In 2017 the journal Aging published a study showing taking a combination of 5 mg of melatonin, 5 mg strontium citrate, 450 mg Vitamin K2, 60 mcg, and 2000 IU Vitamin D3 nightly for a year can help support strong, dense bones.
The conclusion of the study was that when “human mesenchymal stem cells and human peripheral blood monocytes are exposed to these supplements (MSKD) there is increased osteoblastogenesis and decreased osteoclastogenesis.”
What does that mean?
Basically, osteoblasts build your bone and then osteoclasts resorb it (this is what resorption means: “remove (cells, or a tissue or structure) by gradual breakdown into component materials and dispersal in the circulation. ‘bone tissue will be resorbed’ ”
Since most people aren’t deficient in melatonin but are deficient in K-2 and D-3 – and don’t need calcium we put a bunch of D-3, K-2, as well as strontium citrate to help make sure osteoblasts and osteoclasts do the job of helping to keep bones strong and healthy.
