Simple 2-Minute Activity Could Save Your Life

Multiple studies have been conducted to determine the risk of remaining sedentary for too long.

Researchers have found if you spend much of your time sitting or remaining in one position it can increase the risk of life threatening diseases.

And now a simple way to fight those diseases might have been found.

It’s been determined if you’re able to get up and move with moderate intensity for 2 minutes on the hour for every hour you sit, it can help decrease your risk of dying early.

I’ve written about this before. Even vigorous exercise isn’t enough to offset the danger. But, the new study published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology seems to show that exercising in intervals will help.

The author of the study, Tom Greene (director of the Study Design and Biostatistics Center at the Center for Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City) said “Exercise is great, but the reality is that the practical amount of vigorous exercise that can be achieved is limited. Our study suggests that even small changes can have a big impact.”

Their study followed 3,200 people and the data was gleaned from those who wore devices to measure the intensity of their daily activities.

CBS writes on the findings.

The study found that standing more may not be enough to offset the dangers of sitting for too long, but short bursts of light activities, such as walking, cleaning and gardening can boost the longevity of people who are sedentary for more than half of their day.

Trading two minutes of sitting for two minutes of light-intensity activity each hour lowered the risk of premature death by 33 percent, the study revealed.

“It was fascinating to see the results because the current national focus is on moderate or vigorous activity. To see that light activity had an association with lower mortality is intriguing,” study lead author Dr. Srinivasan Beddhu, a professor of medicine at the university, said in a university news release.

All told, this would add around 2.5 hours of light activity over the course of a week.

This moderate exercise could work to help strengthen the heart, muscles, and bones, which is essential for better health.

One thing the study didn’t mention was the role of vitamin K-2 on health.

While Vitamin K-2 can’t replace the benefits of moderate exercise, one thing it is able to do is help improve heart and and bone health by way of locating calcium from the arteries and moving it to bones and teeth where it belongs.

Vitamin K-2 is quickly becoming a popular vitamin owing to the massive deficiencies in the U.S.

Most Vitamin K-2 is made with a problematic ingredient. Soy.

Only one brand of Vitamin K-2 is manufactured without soy at the moment.
