Detoxification, Immunity

Common Household Items That Wreck Your Health

One of the main reasons so many people are suffering from a wide range of health issues is because of the items used inside your homes.

A few hundred years ago, the world we lived in wasn’t nearly as toxic as it is today.

And now, we live in a world swimming in man made toxins that produce horrible affects on our overall health.

If you don’t believe me, take a look at some of the evidence collected here.

An even bigger part of the problem is many people (20-25% or so) of Americans also suffer from an MTHFR gene mutation.

Because this malfunction exists, it impedes the body’s ability to detox properly, and so a worsening number of health conditions are beginning to appear as a result.

A corruption in the detox process can lead to complications when it comes to many aspects of your health…if only it wasn’t so.

Even more troubling is just how hard it is to get away from these toxins.

For many people suffering with MTHFR, even some of the items in your home can affect them negatively.

Household Items That Lead to Poor Health

Let me move into this portion of the article with a fair amount of grace.

What I want you to understand first and foremost is I’m only pointing out known problems for people with MTHFR. By no means is this list a call for you to get up and move. Nor do I expect these are things you’ll be able to change overnight.

Instead, this list exists so if you find out if you have MTHFR and start working to overcome it, you can compare your life to this list if you’re still having trouble later on down the road.

Poor quality food: I’ll say this even when they’re lowering me into a grave at age 105…you cannot possibly expect to feel well if you eat bad foods. That means if you’re consuming processed foods, foods that carry high amounts of herbicidal toxins or pesticdides, along with foods that promote the formation of free radicals, you’re sabotaging your health in an incredibly harmful way.

Artificial supplements: Even though the body needs folate for the methylation cycle, the government has mandated some foods make use of folic acid. Folic acid is not beneficial to health for most with MTHFR mutations. In fact, its inclusion can significantly harm normal bodily functions.

Plastic food packaging: A few years ago, the news about how harmful plastic packaging could be made the news. Plastics degrade on the microscopic level. This means it “leaches” into foods. Many of these chemicals have been shown to be harmful to the endocrine system (which regulates hormone levels) as well as have been proven to cause cancer.

Fluoridated water: This is a subject I’ll be covering in detail soon, suffice it to say, fluoride is not beneficial to health. Its use in dental products means your body absorbs it through mucous membranes, and once it makes it into the body, it can severely disrupt natural processes in the body.

Standardized medicine: Whether you realize it or not, the medicine you take can also affect your health. This is especially true when you have an impaired MTHFR. Many medicines people take are actually prescribed to treat pre-existing MTHFR mutations. These medicines range from simple OTC drugs like Tylenol or Motrin, all the way to anti-depressants, among others. Bottom line, they usually disrupt health in a negative fashion.

Carpet: This one might surprise you, but some carpets could be made of highly toxic filament that is carcinogenic. Not only that, the construction of carpet could also lead to the trapping of toxins. You can have your carpet tested to see what it’s made of, but one of the best things you can do is try and avoid direct skin contact with the carpet. Wearing socks and staying in rooms without carpeting can decrease your exposure to toxins.

Water: In all likelihood, your water is contributing to the toxic load your body sees. Why? Well, as I mentioned, one of the substances you need to worry about is fluoride. The other thing you need to think about is how water is treated to become drinkable. At the water treatment plant your water is injected full of chemicals to kill bacteriological and virological elements. This leaves harmful chemical compounds left over.

You’re likely to see harmful chemicals like arsenic, lead, mercury, DDT, perchlorate, chlorine, and many others inside your water. The problem with water is it is absorbed both through ingestion as well as through skin contact. At least when it’s ingested it can pass through the liver and kidneys for detox purposes. When it’s absorbed through the skin, the toxins go right into your system and then can disrupt your detox processes. At the end of the day, your water supply might be much more dangerous than you think.

Heavy metals: Heavy metals aren’t just found in your water supply, they can be found in great amounts elsewhere. They can be found in the food you eat. For instance, mercury is found in high amounts in predatory fish like Tuna, Swordfish, and Tilefish. Not to mention, it’s also found in the air you breathe (especially if you live in industrial areas), tattoo inks, cigarette smoke, plastics, and more.

People who have an MTHFR mutation are especially susceptible to heavy metal accumulation because their body can’t chelate (remove) the metals naturally.  As heavy metals can disrupt hormone paths, it’s important to find out if you do have heavy metal build-ups. To determine if you’ve got a heavy metal build up, I advise checking a urine heavy metal chelation challenge test. It is the most reliable test to identify heavy metal levels.

Personal cosmetic and beauty products: It’s important to realize many of the products you use daily might also be disruptive. Perfumes and lotions and other beauty supplies are often times packaged together with harmful chemicals. Sulfates are common in many soaps and shampoos, and parabens as well as phthalates appear in lotions and other skin supplies. Because most of these products go directly on the skin, neither the liver nor the kidneys can work to help you detox from them. And many of these chemicals are known to be carcinogenic and can disrupt the endocrine system.

Consider avoiding standard deodorant/antiperspirants. They have a dangerous form of aluminum in them, and some research suggests they “plug” up your sweat glands. This can be particularly harmful as one of your body’s main forms of excreting toxins is through your sweat glands. If they’re all clogged up, those toxins can rebound and stay inside and continue to harm you.

Household cleaning products: If you turn over a bottle of cleaning products, you’re bound to see a long list of chemicals that you can’t even begin to pronounce. Just because you can’t pronounce it, doesn’t mean it is bad for you…BUT…most of these chemicals are proven to be harmful. You can look to use “green” products as well as use regular white vinegar and rubbing alcohol for many of your cleaning needs.

Also, wearing gloves and masks can help you avoid direct contact with chemicals. Ultimately, you can assume if it was made in a lab somewhere it’s not great for your body.

I wish I could say this list was exhaustive, but it’s not.

With over 84,000 chemicals having been manufactured in the past 200 some odd years it’s safe to say there are many more products you “need to worry” about.

These are some of the ones I consider to be at the top of the list to eliminate from daily use (if you can).

Where Do We Go From Here?

The good news is up.

As you learned, the MTHFR mutation is something that can be overcome.

As soon as you find out if you have MTHFR or not, you can begin to start working towards correcting it.

Supplements to treat MTHFR are far more affordable than complicated treatment procedures involving costly medicines.

On top of that, if you can work to adjust your lifestyle around the list you just read, you might also see some significant improvements with your health.

And, in a as always, if you start to eat well and treat your body well, you’ll likely see an improvement in how you feel.

Your health is a house of cards. The more you do to strengthen the base and protect the base, the better you’ll continue to feel.
